Interpreting has become a vital part of business meetings, conferences, forums and other types of negotiations. Obviously written translation is useless during such events.
There are two types of oral translation: consecutive and simultaneous. Consecutive is the type when the interpreter waits till the speaker finishes his phrase. Simultaneous is when the interpreter provides the translation while the speaker continues to talk.
Both types of work are quite complicated and demand high qualification. As the interpreter has no opportunity to consult the dictionary or make a pause. It is possible to omit some phrases not carrying any semantic charge, but the speech should be translated to the full extent.
